Berhampur: Police seized Rs 5.36 lakh from a vehicle which was intercepted near Punjikanya square in Digapahandi on Wednesday.

According to reports, the police conducted a search operation on the basis of a tip-off, in the presence of Block Election Officer Adwait Kumar Swain, Block Agriculture Officer, Padarbinda Sahoo and Revenue Inspector, Ratnakar Swain.

The cash, spotted in two airbags was being transported to an definite location which is yet to be ascertained. The persons present in the vehicle have been detained for interrogation.

Sources said, the detainees are supporters of a national political party who were heading towards Mohana from Berhampur.

“Our Static Surveillance Team carried out the operation and seized the cash. The amount has been handed over to the returning officer (RO) along with a detailed report. Further inquiry is on,” Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said.
