Odisha: Rs 23 Crore GST Fraud Busted, Two Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Directorate General of GST Intelligence unearthed a racket involving issuances of fake invoices for availing tax benefits worth Rs 23 crore under GST and arrested two persons in this regard.

The intelligence wing unearthed the racket of issuance of fake invoices without actual supply of goods and services from April 2018 till November 2018, said department’s official statement.

A search was conducted at Jajpur office and factory premises of Maithan Ispat Ltd at Jajpur. Prima facie evidence revealed manipulation of IT returns by General Manager (Finance) Manas Ranjan Pahi and Assistant General Manager (Taxation) Surendra Kumar Patra.

Following this Pahi was arrested from Kolkata and his associate Patra was arrested her. Both the arrests happened simultaneously on January 2 have been remanded to judicial custody of 14 days.
