Rourkela: Aiming to create a 'World Record', Smile Forever foundation in Rourkela organised an event to display over 15-kilometer long Tricolour on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day on Thursday.
School and college students, citizens, volunteers from different organisations, all gathered from Hanuman Vatika square to Sector- 2 Biju Patnaik square in smart city Rourkela and created a unique patriotic scene for display. Holding the long Tricolour in their hands, they sang the national anthem and paid tributes to the martyrs.
As per reports, 12 women tailors were engaged for six months by the Smile Forever foundation in making the flag. The display started at 9 am and it took hours to form the entire chain of over 15-km. However, some locals have alleged that there was foul play after 4 kilometer onwards.
Organisers of the event have already informed the authorities of Guinness Book of World Records in this regard. A video footage of the event has also been sent.
Currently, the World Record is held by a Raipur foundation which had entered the Champions Book of World Record after displaying a 15-km long national Tricolour flag in Chhattisgarh.
