Odisha: Road Safety In 10th Syllabus From Next Academic Session

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to sensitise students on traffic rules and road safety, the State Government has decided to include road safety in the syllabus from academic session 2020-21 for Std X students.

The announcement was made during a meeting chaired by Commerce & Transport Secretary Pramod Meherda at Kharavela Bhawan here today. A special chapter will be introduced in the syllabus of Class X which will nurture safety as a culture among students. It would also include traffic rules under New Motor Vehicles Act.

Traffic signals, the importance of administering first aid after accidents, rules to be followed while riding a motorcycle and crossing a road, the importance of helmets and seat belts and road safety laws will be the topics that will be covered in a chapter.

The Department of School and Mass Education will take a call on the outline of the syllabus. Besides, other important road safety measures like installation of CCTV cameras on the entire stretch of Rameswar in Khurda to Chandikhol under the Integrated Highway Management System was also discussed in the meeting.
