Odisha: Road Mishaps In Puri & Angul Claim One Life, Injure Several

Puri/Angul: Soon after a heart-wrenching road accident claimed the lives of 5 members of a dance group in Kendrapara this morning, two other road mishaps have been reported from Puri and Angul districts today afternoon that have claimed one life and left several injured.

The first incident took place on Puri-Konark Marine Drive road’s Liakhai bridge when a car carrying tourists from West Bengal rammed into a tree after the driver lost control over the wheels.

While driver Jyoti Prakash Mishra died on the spot, as many as eight tourists from Bengal sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Puri District Headquarter Hospital for treatment.

Reportedly, the tourists had come from Bengal’s Nadia area for darshan of the Holy Trinity. They had gone for sight-seeing in a SUV today and were returning from Bhubaneswar when the mishap took place.

The second incident took place after a bus and a truck collided head-on at Tukuda under Jarapada police limits and left as many as 8 persons critical and over 30 injured. The ill-fated vehicle carrying the victims was on the way to Angul from Sambalpur when the mishap occurred at around 11 AM on National Highway-55.

On intimation, police and Fire personnel reached the spot, rescued the injured ones and admitted them to the Angul district headquarters hospital.
