Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 702 motor vehicle accidents in September 2019. The number of accidents during the same month in 2018 was 844 which has dropped by around 16 per cent. Transport and Commerce Padmanav Behera today said that the Ammended Motor Vehicle (MV) Act has proven to be a deterrent against road safety and traffic violators.

Responding to a question raised by MLA Mohan Charan Majhi over traffic enforcement, Behera said that the total fine collected over MV violations in the past two months was around Rs 1.53 crore.

The maximum penalty was realised from people driving without driving license which was Rs 46 lakh. On the other hand, Rs 38 lakh was collected from commuters driving with a valid pollution control certificate for their vehicles, the Minister said.
