01 October 2019

Bhubaneswar: The fear of hefty penalty under the amended Motor Vehicle Act that kicked in from September 1 has compelled many in Odisha to get the Learning Licence (LL) at least at the earliest.

According to data released by the State Transport Authority (STA) on Tuesday, a staggering 1.23 lakh LL were issued in the State in September this year.

What is interesting is as much as 36.72 percent of the total number of LLs issued last year has been issued in the month of September alone this year. A total of 3.35 LLs were issued last year.

The STA has further informed that as many as 24,000 LLs were issued in Bhubaneswar alone in the month of September this year.

The STA has shared the information on micro blogging site twitter. Here’s the tweet:

Petrified of the increased penalty of Rs 5,000 for driving without licence, people across the State have been queuing up at RTO offices and specially set up camps for testing and issue of LLs as the moratorium given by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik comes to an end on November 30.
