Odisha: Rapist Father Awarded Lifer, Twin City Police Felicitates IO & Public Prosecutor

Bhubaneswar: Twin City police today felicitated sub-inspector Urmila Mallick and senior lawyer Chittaranjan Dash for their sincere work in a rape case which lead to the swift trial and conviction of the accused.

The case relates to a minor girl belonging to Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar. The minor was raped by her biological father in May 2016. In this case, on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, Mahila police initiated an investigation and arrested the accused Susil Digal.

Mallick, currently working with the STF was entrusted the case as Investigating Officer. Senior lawyer and Additional Public Prosecutor, Dash represented the case as the prosecution lawyer.

Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said that proper investigation and timely submission of the chargesheet assisted the prosecution to fight the case effectively. This led to early completion of the trial and conviction.

"The convict was awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 by the District and Session Judge, Khurda. In this case, the investigation has been praiseworthy. We congratulate Additional Public Prosecutor, Chittaranjan Dash for successful prosecution, which led to the conviction of the accused" said Sarangi.
