Puri: The proposed Shree Jagannath Medical College and Hospital (SJMCH) at Puri will be completed by 2021. The land for this new medical college in Odisha was already identified and on Wednesday, the district administration handed over the record of rights (Patta) to the Works Department.
Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department Minister Naba Kishore Das, Works Department Minister Prafulla Mallick, Puri Collector Balwant Singh and senior officials of the district administration held a high-level meeting and discussed the modalities of the proposed medical college.
“As per the directions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, work of new medical college at Puri is moving at a fast pace. The district administration has been very prompt and handed over the Patta of the land to us today,” Das said.
Das added, “Works Department Minister and officials were present in the meeting today and they have committed to complete the work of the new medical college by 2021.” There will be two new buildings accommodating the medical college and hospital of SJMCH separately.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Works Minister Mallick said, the construction of hostel building and academic building is almost complete. “We were yet to get the land for the new hospital building which was handed over today. The work has been expedited and the new MCH will be completed by 2021.”
The academic session of the upcoming medical college here will begin by 2021 or 2022. For this purpose, the State Government will work together with the Medical Council of India (MCI), said Das.
