Bargarh: The Private Bus Owners’ Association called for a 24-hour strike today in Bargarh and kept the buses non-operational, protesting the alleged illegal construction of a new bus terminal-cum-market complex in the district.

The association alleged that the shifting of the bus terminal, which has been built as per the direction of the Bargarh Municipality, from its current location to this new space will cause a lot of traffic jams and accidents.

The association also alleged that the funds for a new bus terminal are being misused as a market complex is also being built along with it for commercial gains. The bus owners also claimed that permission and clearance from the Town Panning Authority and Fire Department were not taken for the two-storied market complex.

The body also said that Bargarh Municipality had repeatedly threatened to change the place of their bus terminal to cause inconvenience to the owners. The bus owners staged demonstration outside the Collectorate Office later in the day and Collector Indramani Tripathy has assured to look into the matter.
