Bhubaneswar: Despite having filed papers as an Independent candidate for the Kendrapara Assembly seat peeved over denial of party ticket to her, former BJD MLA Shipra Mallick today decided to withdraw her nomination and averred her support to party candidate Sashi Bhusan Behera, the senior MLA-cum-incumbent Finance Minister of Odisha.

This was informed by Shipra herself after holding discussions with BJD chief at Naveen Niwas here.

Talking to media, she said, “Even though I was interested to contest from that seat (Kendrapara Assembly) and I had also the public support, but I have always stated to abide by our party supremo (Naveen Patnaik)’s decision. Honouring his direction, I’ll now withdraw my nomination already filed.”

She added, “Yes I had stated to fight as an Independent candidate. But, it is true that I’ll now equally fight the election along with Sashi Bhai. He will be the MLA there, but I’ll work for the people as their MLA in his place.”

“I’m now going to withdraw my nomination unconditionally as I repose full trust on my party president,” asserted Shipra.

She further stated, “Sashi Bhusan Behera is an able Finance Minister and a senior leader of our party. He was not only fit for one assembly constituency, but also eight other assembly constituencies. Till the last moment Kendrapara was in suspense. We’ll all fight unitedly and assure our Chief Minister’s victory so that Kendrapara is represented by our candidate in Assembly.”
