Phulbani (Kandhamal): A day before the slated Phase-II polling in the Kandhamal parliamentary constituency tomorrow (April 18), a vehicle carrying the polling party was allegedly set on fire by unidentified miscreants in this Maoist-hit district.
As per reports, the vehicle carrying polling officials with EVMs was heading towards Mungunipadar booth under Phiringia police limits in this district.
Sources claimed that the officials of the polling party are safe while the security personnel have launched massive combing operation there as it has been suspected to be the hadiwork of the left wing extremists (Maoists).
Sources said that the miscreants at least allowed the polling party to get down from the vehicle before it was set ablaze.
Notably, polling has been scheduled for Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat and its assembly segments tomorrow along with four other Lok Sabha seats of Aska, Bolangir, Bargarh and Sundargarh in Odisha. The total Assembly seats that have been slated to go in for voting are 35 in all these five parliamentary constituencies.
