Bhubaneswar: The Odia tweet of BJP’s poster boy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi exuding over confidence of BJP’s astounding win in Odisha before he addressed his election campaign meetings at Sundargarh and Sonepur today, such an alleged audacity has been pooh-poohed.

Reacting to it, senior journalist and poll pundit Prabhukalyan Mohapatra ridiculed, “Such act of fortitude as well as audacity comes forth during the election time. It is like (BJP’s) 120 Mission target even though the number of its MLAs has gradually been receding in the Assembly. It implies passing in higher first division while unable to score even third division in the exams.”

He argued, “The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had also lost in the poll. What is the result of assembly election of the State where Narendra Modi ruled for four tenures? It was observed that the entire Central Government camped there for a month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed 34 campaign meetings. All the Union Ministers campaigned. All the BJP Chief Ministers also jumped into the bandwagon. Notwithstanding that, what was the result? Just majority.”

The political observer commented, “Election is an extremely uncertain issue. Nobody can predict the outcome. As Modi wishes to win more seats, he has been saying like this in a bid to enthuse his party workers.”

“The party has not fielded candidates for the total 147 assembly seats. They don’t even have eligible MP candidates for the 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha. They are importing candidates from other parties. People know well everything. Under such circumstances, people will love to listen and accept whatever is feasible and practical,” the senior scribe remarked.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik reacted, “I don’t agree with his (Modi’s) last word, but whatever will be the result will take BJP aback in Odisha. Last time they had won one (Lok Sabha seat). Let them try to protect it too this time.”

BJD’s Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA candidate Anant Narayan Jena also reacted, “After (May) 23 the picture will be crystal clear. Naveen Babu is fit. He will be the Chief Minister of Odisha for the fifth time. BJD will rule Odisha once again.”
