Cuttack: The Odisha Havildar, Constable and Sepoy Confederation president Santosh Satpathy today informed that their proposed agitation has been put on hold after the State Police agreed with two out of their three demands.

The association had demanded withdrawal of suspension orders of two constables and a home guard who are facing enquiry for allegedly assaulting a lawyer.

“Our constables were on-duty that day and prevented a person in an inebriated condition from driving on the road. He was already involved in two road accidents by then, We had requested DG Police to revoke their suspension and take action against Chauliaganj IIC who let the person go scot free,” Satpathy said.

“The agitation has been put on hold as the DG Police have revoked the suspension and assured action against the IIC. Besides, an inquiry will be conducted into the assault on two constables on the premises of Orissa High Court on October 27,” Satpathy added.

However, senior police officials have informed that revoking suspension of the constables was overdue as the three have been placed under suspension for more than 60 days.

“As per the statutory rules, the suspension lasts upto 45 days. Hence their suspension was revoked. However, this does not imply that the two are exonerated from the charges. The departmental enqury is well on,” a senior police official said, asking not to be quoted.
