Cuttack: Hearing on the alleged assault of a lawyer by police and subsequent face-off between the two pillars of justice was deferred to November 12 (Monday) by the Orissa High Court as the Crime Branch failed to submit its full charge-sheet today.

As the Investigating Officer (IO), Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra, prayed the HC to grant another six weeks to submit the charge-sheet the court decided to conduct hearing on the case on November 12.

Reportedly, Justice CR Das, who is monitoring the case, has also in his observation mentioned that the IO should be awarded more time to complete probe and submit the full charge-sheet.

The Orissa High Court had on September 4 directed a Crime Branch probe into the whole incident, in which a lawyer had been thrashed by cops in Cuttack on August 28. Later on October 30, the court directed to complete the investigation by November 9.

Meanwhile, the Orissa High Court Bar Association has expressed its displeasure over the withdrawal of suspension orders of two constables and a home guard, facing enquiry for allegedly assaulting the lawyer. It has decided to continue its cease-work agitation till further hearing of the case.
