Talcher: As the residents of the town took to streets calling for a city-wide shutdown protesting the mining operations, after a large portion of land caved and developed into a crater in a tea shop near Town police station, the police have detained 7 persons to restore peace in the region.
Soon after, Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal directed a high-level probe into the incident. Taking to his twitter handle, he informed that he has ordered a fact finding enquiry by a team of experts from DGMS, CMPDIL & MCL on the incident urgently as the interests of local community is paramount. In his tweet, he has also mentioned the move came after Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrote a letter to Goyal yesterday seeking his intervention into the incident.

The formation of the crater has created panic and fear in the area. The locals alleged that authorities of MCL had not filled the now defunct Champapasi underground coal mines with packing sand due to which the craters had formed.
