Bhubaneswar: Odisha has over 22 lakh motor vehicles which are aged over 15 years.
"A total of 22, 09,573 vehicles in the State are aged above 15 years. Out of these, 11, 43,026 vehicles are plying," informed Commerce & Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera in a written reply responding to a question by BJP member from Keonjhar Mohan Charan Majhi in the State Assembly.
The Minister has clarified that as per provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Act 2019, issuing of a directive for banning the use of motor vehicles aged above 15 years comes under the purview of the Central government.
Behera has stated that if restrictions are imposed on vehicles aged above 15 years a total of 22,09,573 vehicles will go off the roads and will greatly impact revenue collected from motor vehicles.
