Berhampur: In a shocking turn of events, the newborn boy delivered by a class 8 girl on Sunday died at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur today afternoon.
As per reports, both the minor girl and the newborn were admitted to the hospital yesterday after the girl had delivered a baby boy in the hostel of a Kandhamal residential school. A team of Congress workers and leaders visited the hospital today to meet the victim.
Soon after a young teenage girl delivered a baby on Sunday in the premises of a school’s hostel, the State was shook to the core as to why the school authorities had not taken any necessary steps over the course of 9 months of pregnancy. Taking matter into their hands, the district Collector has suspended the school’s headmistress Radharani Dalai today.
After the matter had come to the fore on Sunday, two matrons, one health worker (ANM), two CCAs cook-cum-attendants and one warden had been dismissed while three women Assistant Superintendents were suspended.
According to Kandhamal SP Pratik Singh, "The girl was raped 8 months back at her village by a 23-year-old Shravan Kumar Pradhan. She couldn't reveal it before anyone out of fear and shame. The main accused has been detained.”
Kandhamal Collector has also written to Odisha government recommending action against headmistress and has directed sub-collector to conduct probe and submit report within 10 days. Meanwhile, Odisha SC and ST Minister Ramesh Majhi has reportedly ordered for a probe into the incident.
