Odisha: National Highway Projects Put On Fast Track

Bhubaneswar: The National Highway projects in Odisha have been put on fast track with Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy taking a review of the ongoing projects. Taking a project wise review Tripathy sought information on the issues and bottlenecks, if any, in process of implementation and directed the executing agencies to complete the projects well before the scheduled time by enhancing implementation capacity at the ground level. 

Presenting details of the projects, Chief General Manager NHAI, Odisha Ramprasad Panda said, "No issue relating to the projects is pending with State Government. Presently 5753 kms of NH roads are there in the State out of which 1912 kms are under the charge of NHAI and 2935 Km are under the charge of State Roads and buildings department. Additional 906 kms roads in the State have been declared as NH and they would be soon entrusted either to NHAI or to State for up-keeping."

Review showed, presently 22 number of upgrading projects including 4-laning, 6-laning, fly over and bridge projects are under implementation in the State. Target has been set to complete construction of 366 kms of NH in the FY 2019-20 with a total estimated cost of around Rs 20,000 crore. Out of this so far 173 Kms have been completed with utilization of around Rs 1,651 crore. Chief Secretary directed to expedite construction works through constant monitoring of the contract agreements. 

Four-laning of the Panikoili-Rimuli section of NII 215 (New NH-20) figured in the meeting. Panda appraised that there was 95% physical progress in the work Out of the total length of around 166 kms, 4-laning was completed in 152 kms and 2 liming was completed in 14 kms. There was no issue pending with State Government for progress of the project. The problems cropped up at the level of concessioner and the lender. The balance work included around seven kms of carriageway, three bridges, one elephant underpass and around nine kms of service roads. He added that the problems would be solved soon and the balance work would be completed expeditiously.

Replying to a query after the meeting, Panda said that a new mega project, Raipur - Vishakhapatnam NH is in the pipeline. Around 240 kms of this highway will be passing through Odisha's Nabarangpur and Koraput districts.
