02 September 2019

Puri: Seers heading Mutts in Puri are in a state of panic. The district administration's beautification drive has led to demolition of several of these Mutts, and many more are in the pipeline.

According to sources, on Tuesday, the 'Bada Akhada' mutt will be razed. The 'Mahant' heading this mutt said that he supports the Government's decision of beautifying the periphery of Jagannath Temple.

However, he said that the affected people should have got considerable time to prepare for the relocation. "The project was undertaken hastily. We people are not a business entity, these mutts are for the service of the devotees," he said.

"There are cooking utensils in large numbers. Materials for lodging and boarding for the devotees. We are not sure if the new location allocated to us will be sufficient to house our stuff," he added.

The State Government has announced a rehabilitation package for the people who will be affected by the drive undertaken by the district administration for security and beautification of the temple.
