Bhubaneswar: Odisha government is mulling on a proposal to construct clusters of quarters for teachers of government-run schools in the 'Swabhiman Anchal' of Malkangiri district, informed School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash here today.
"I have given a proposal to the Collector for construction of clusters and provision of allied facilities to house 10-15 teachers in each cluster in Swabhiman Anchal," Dash said while briefing reporters here.
These clusters will serve as quarters for 8-10 teachers, he explained.
"I was impressed by the interest of the people in Swabhiman Anchal towards education during my visit to Malkangiri," the Minister stated.
Dash said that since there are no native teachers in that area, teachers posted in these schools spend nearly three hours to reach the school and three hours to reach home on their return and to add to that there are no houses available on rent in these areas.
"Our priority after my visit will be to consider construction of clusters to house teachers near the schools in this area so that the teacher need not waste valuable time on travel to reach the school and back. This would create a favourable environment for imparting education in this area," the Minister stated.
Das said that he will be taking up the matter with the Chief Minister.
The Minister was on a surprise visit to Swabhiman Anchal on Thursday to study the shortcomings in the field of school education in that area.
