Odisha Mountaineer Kalpana Das Passes Away On Mt Everest While Descending

Bhubaneswar: Odisha mountaineer Kalpana Das (49) died above the balcony area on Mount Everest on Thursday afternoon while descending from the summit point.

As per the The Himalayan Times, Director at the Department of Tourism, Meera Acharya informed that Das along with Kanchhi Maya Tamang from Nepal and Liyamu Ma from China, members of the ‘Three Women Expedition’ had made it to the summit of Mt Everest at around 12:55 pm.

“Das, who fell ill on the descent died near the balcony area,” Acharya quoted base camp officials as saying, told The Himalayan Times.

Kalpana, who hails from Dhenkanal, had successfully climbed the Mount Everest in 2008. Her death brings the toll to 14 on different mountains above 8,000 m in the spring climbing season.
