Balasore: Police took into custody five miscreants who impersonated as Motor Vehicle Inspectors and looted tourists in Jaleswar. The gang was busted on Saturday.

The gang used to pose as Motor Vehicle Inspectors and stopped vehicles carrying tourists from outside Odisha. They used the pretext of checking documents and instead looted the faultless tourists.

In their most recent act, they stopped a tourist bus at Lakhmana Nath Tanakhi toll gate. Once on the bus, they beat up the driver and the female passengers. They looted cash and gold jewelry; and absconded from the site.

The injured were later admitted to Jaleswar hospital. In protest, several other tourists blocked NH 60.

Jaleswar Police swung into action and have taken five people into custody. An investigation has been initiated.
