Bhubaneswar: Districts across Odisha have been witnessing unabated cold wave with mercury dipping below 10 degree Centigrade in nine cities on Friday. Sonepur shivered after having the lowest temperature of 4 degrees.
Following Sonepur, Keonjhar has the second-lowest temperature of 5.6. Kanjipani Ghati, Balani and Barbil, in Keonjhar even witnessed mild snowfall.
Others cities which shivered as temperature dropped were Jharsuguda and Titlagarh at 5.8, Daringbadi at 7, Sambalpur at 7.4, Balasore at 7.6, Cuttack at 9.6 and Hirakud at 9.8 degrees Centigrade. Capital city Bhubaneswar witnesses the lowest of 12 degrees.
Dipping temperatures accompanied with light showers across State has added to the woes. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, minimum temperatures are likely to slide by 4 to 5 degrees in the coming days.
This cold wave caused by North-East winds was expected to dip temperatures from today and will last till January 5. On January 1 and 2, light to moderate rainfall will also occur in some parts of the State, IMD Bhubaneswar Director, HR Biswas said.
