Bhubaneswar: In a major development of party joining today, tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj District BJP ST Morcha president Ram Kumar Soren along with his supporters switched over to BJD at Naveen Niwas in presence of BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

In his reactions, the Chief Minister said, “I’m glad that 100 BJP leaders and workers of Mayurbhanj district have joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today. I welcome them. Their joining will strengthen the Biju Janata Dal.”

Ram Kumar Soren said, “I had been a BJP worker since long and Bisoi block’s Adivasi Morcha president. But the official group of BJP has been neglecting us as well as inflicting mental pressure since long. Hence, all the groups, both from the ST and Minority, of Saraskana assembly segment today came over to Naveen Niwas and joined BJD due to Chief Minister’s good governance and able leadership.”

“We have not come here for tickets. We only want to work for the BJD party. The party supremo will decide on the responsibilities to be assigned to us,” he claimed.

Senior BJD MLA and party spokesperson Arun Sahoo said, “In the last by-election of Zilla Parishad seat of Bijaytola, Biju Janata Dal has won with a huge margin of votes by defeating the BJP, JMM and Congress. Now an environment has been created in Mayurbhanj district that BJD should win and Naveen Patnaik should be lent support.”

“The meetings attended by lakhs of women at Baripada and Rairangpur have proved that the people of Mayurbhanj love the Hon’ble Chief Minister very much and bless him accordingly. I think BJD is becoming stronger in Mayurbhanj district,” he opined.
