Odisha: Married Woman Critical After Self-Immolation Bid In Puri

Puri: A 35-year-old married woman was rendered critical after she poured kerosene and set herself on fire at Bedapur village here today morning.

The woman has been identified as Banita Behera (35). Reportedly, she immolated herself after a family dispute and was rescued by the fire services personnel in critical condition. 90 per cent of her body sustained burn injuries and she was rushed to Gop Community Health Centre (CHC).

While the victim has alleged that she took extreme step following mental harassment by her family members, some locals have also said that she was mentally ill. Exact reason behind the step is yet to be ascertained.

When her condition further worsened, she was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
