Nabarangpur: In a shocking incident, red rebels killed a local by slitting his throat in Venus village of Raighar block area here today morning citing that he was a police informer.

The deceased has been identified as Tunu Markam.

The Maoists have also put up letters on tree trunks all across Umerkote stating that Tunu was a police informer and had teamed up with the Nabarangpur’s Superintendant of Police. He had been doing this since 2015 and had been warned by us by several times, said the Maoists in their letter.

“Last year, we held a Jan Adaalat with villagers of Odisha and Chhattisgarh to instruct them from restraining from such activities but Tunu still did not pay any heed. This is why we have given him the punishment of death,” the letter concludes.
