Kandhamal: Close on the heels of torching a bus in Malkangiri, the red rebels have blocked the Baliguda-Daringbadi road by felling trees near Pakaladami ghat here today morning thus observing the ‘Protest Week’ in full swing.

Vehicular movement was adversely as Maoists also blocked Durgapanga road in Kotagad block and Mundanaju ghat road of Daringbadi Block. The trees that were felled to block the roads also have posters on them in which the red rebels have called upon people to observe January 31 (today) as ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by CPI (M) and make it a major success.

In Malkangiri, the last day of protest week is also being observed in full force. Government vehicles are not plying and traffic has also come to a halt on Jeypore-Malkangiri road.

In Kalahandi, Madanpur-Rampur road, NH-59 Gopalpur-Raipur road and Narla area in Bhawanipatana-Rayagada road have been blocked. Several road construction equipments and materials were also found torched by the red rebels.

On Monday night, around 20 armed Maoists had allegedly torched a private passenger bus near Mahupadar under Mathili PS in Odisha’s Malkangiri district. They even thrashed the driver, conductor and helper for plying the bus during the ‘Protest Week’ and snatched their cash and mobile phones.

However, the passengers were spared. Then the Maoists put posters and leaflets in the area before fleeing from the spot.
