02 February 2020

Rayagada: During a regular combing operation, CRPF jawans busted a Maoist camp and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunitions in a forest under Chandrapur police limits here.

The combing operation was being conducted on Saturday alongside the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border by the jawans of the 8th Battalion. During the search, the personnel identified a Maoist camp. Upon inspection, they found a stash of nine guns, 15 detonators, 11 gelatin sticks and eight rounds of live bullets.

Chandrapur of Rayagada district has been infamous for being a Maoist-infested area. However, the illegal activities had been on hold for a while. With the finding of such a huge stash of explosives, it seems that the Maoists were planning something big which was foiled due to timely action, opined sources. They added that combing operations are all set to be intensified in the area.
