Kendrapara: A man killed his wife by thrashing her repeatedly with a wooden staff in front of their two kids after she refused to give him money to buy liquor. The incident has occurred in Gopalpur village under Mahakalapada block of Kendrapara district on Tuesday.

A carpenter by profession the accused identified as Babuli Sutar is a habitual drinker, as a result of which the couple used to fight often. Earlier today, he asked Rs 50 to his wife to buy liquor but on refusal he took a wooden staff and thrashed her to death.

It was after receiving information from the local ward member, Mahakalapada police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Police have recovered the wooden staff from near the body while Sutar is absconding.
