Jharsuguda: Odisha’s second airport, Veer Surendra Sai Airport, is expected to have regular flight operations from March 31 onwards, informed airport director SK Chouhan today.

Officials of SpiceJet, a low cost carrier, visited the airport today to conduct a check. The carrier will operate from the airport on three routes- Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad, stated reports.

Jharsuguda Airport director SK Chouhan said, “Government had recently announced the results of RCS phase 3 and out of the four airlines announced, SpiceJet is one of them. An eight member team of Spice Jet from Delhi and Kolkata visited the airport today for basically assessing the safety and are looking at facilities available in the Airport.”

A SpiceJet official said, “We will submit a report soon following which the operations will begin.”

The tentative schedule for regular operations is from March 31, Chouhan concluded.

On November 2018, Airports Authority of India (AAI) had cancelled UDAN licence of Air Odisha to operate from 7 airports namely Jharsuguda, Raipur, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur and Vishakapatnam after it failed to operate the minimum scheduled flights within a period of 3 months. The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22.
