Bhubaneswar: In a capital city heist, a miscreant allegedly looted a bag of jeweleries worth over Rs 25 lakh weighing around 1 Kg from Indradhanu Market under Nayapalli Police limits here late last night.

Reportedly, the incident took place at around 10.20 pm when the owner of a jewelery shop and his wife were closing the shop for the day. They had kept a bag containing precious ornaments and jeweleries near the entrance and were locking the shop. Taking advantage of the situation, the miscreant picked up the bag and fled the spot when the owner had gone inside the shop to wrap things up.

Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty said, "The owner used to take some ornaments home every night as a safety measure. The miscreant has definitely noticed the owner's movements and have been planned accordingly."

On basis of CCTV footage, cops have started a probe into the incident after the owner filed an FIR at Nayapalli Police station soon after the incident. A special squad has been assigned to nab the culprit and all exit routes are being examined, informed Police Commissioner.
