Malkangiri: An under-trail prisoner has broke out of Malkangiri sub-jail on Tuesday by allegedly using a drain, which was under maintenance, as an escape way.

The accused identified as Ajit Dakua had been arrested by Orkel Police on January 19 and court forwarded on charges of trafficking cannabis. He had been lodged in the jail since then.

Jail authorities came to know about his escape only when they found one inmate missing during a regular checking in the afternoon.

As Ajit was nowhere to be found after a thorough search of the jail premises, the Jail Superintendent lodged a complaint at Malkangiri police station. Based on the complaint, a manhunt has been launched to nab Ajit.
