Cuttack: In a major breakthrough before Diwali, the Commissionerate Police busted an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Trilochanpur village in Jagatpur area here today morning and seized a huge cache of crackers.

Cuttack DCP Akhileshvar Singh informed, “Acting on a tip-off, we raided the illegal unit today and have seized a huge cache of different types of firecrackers from the village. Four persons have been held in connection with this. However, the two main accused are absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab them.”

To avoid any untoward incident at the scene, seven platoons of police force deployed amidst palpable tension in the village.

Further investigation into the matter is currently underway, Singh added.

Notably after Supreme Court’s directives over firecrackers, the Commissionerate Police has tightened its belt to ensure a safe and green Diwali this year.
