Odisha: IAS Bijay Ketan Says, 'Falsely Implicated By Top Officials'

Bhubaneswar: IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya who was arrested by the Vigilance on Monday, today said that he has been falsely implicated.

Upadhyaya was produced in the Special Vigilance Court here today evening. There was a posse of media persons waiting outside the court complex while the 2009-batch IAS officer was being produced before the Magistrate.

"I have not taken any money. I have been trapped by people from my own Department. Some top-level people have vindictively framed me," he said.

On the other hand, the Vigilance took Upadhyaya on a six-day remand for further questioning. He was arrested by the anti-corruption agency on charges of bribery.

Upadhyaya was the Director of Horticulture under Agriculture Department. The State Government has placed him under suspension.

On the other hand, the Vigilance Directorate today stated that during the search of houses of Upadhyaya and another accused in this case, Santosh Kumar Pattanayak and their associate, cash of Rs 11.78 lakhs has been seized.

Mobile phones, pen-drive, hard disc, laptop and diaries have also have been seized. Files relevant to SRM Plastochem Pvt. Ltd. have been taken charge from the Directorate of Horticulture. Cyber and cell phone forensic experts of State Forensic Science Laboratory have been examining the seized devices.

During verification at Yes Bank, Bapuji Nagar Branch it was found that Directorate of Horticulture has four accounts in the Branch, one of which relates to Micro-Irrigation," a press note released by the Vigilance read.
