Angul: After a grand awareness rally in Puri, hockey mascot Olly has reached Angul today to promote the sporting extravaganza Men’s Hockey World Cup that is scheduled to take place in Kalinga Stadium from November 28- December 16.

After touring Pallahara and Talcher, Olly reached Angul stadium and attended a colourful procession this morning. The mascot was given a warm welcome by the district administration following which a march was held in the entire city.

Project Director of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Atulya Champati Ray flagged off the rally which was attended by school kids and students amidst much fanfare. The popularity of Olly seems to grow every passing day. A large crowd thronged the rally to catch a glimpse of Olly and shoot selfies with the mascot.

This effort was made to make the people conscious about the International sporting event which Odisha will host, thus to encourage people to participate in large numbers and make the occasion a grand success.

The Sports and Youth Services Department had unveiled the official mascot of Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 ‘Olly’ at Puri beach on October 9. Alongside promoting hockey, he will raise awareness about conservation of his Olive Ridley turtle brethren.

Olly personifies the spirit of sportsmanship and marries it with an urgent message for conservation of the state’s natural habitat. He will encourage all to imbibe the principles of fairness and competition that sport teaches the people.

Olly a symbolic representation of the rare Olive Ridley turtles has held the mast of Odisha high since Asian Athletics Championships held in 2017. Now the same specie has been personified for the Men's Hockey World Cup.
