Odisha: High Court Rejects 'Parcel Bomb' Case Accused Punjilal Meher's Bail Plea

Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court on Monday rejected the bail petition of Punjilal Meher, the alleged mastermind behind Patnagarh parcel bomb tragedy in which the groom and his grandmother.

The court observed the nature and gravity of the accusation, severity of punishment in case of conviction and the conduct of the petitioner in trying to escape from jail, while rejecting Punjilal's bail.

The court also observed that prima facie materials on record show that Punjilal masterminded the crime for being replaced by Soumya's (the groom) mother from the post of college principal. Two innocent lives were lost and a newly-wed bride was widowed, the court observed.
