Odisha: High Court Orders Closure Of Subordinate Courts, To Hear Only Urgent Matters

Cuttack: In wake of coronavirus outbreak and after lockdown, the Orissa High Court has ordered the closure of courts subordinate courts in its jurisdiction which will open to hear only urgent matters. This and several other guidelines were issued by the apex court in an official communique, today.

The subordinate courts in territorial jurisdictions of revenue districts of Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Kendrapada, Angul and the municipal jurisdictions of Puri, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Jajpur, Jajpur Road and Bhadrak have been issued the guidelines.

The instructions are:

  1. No further listing of cases till March 31.
  2. Extremely urgent matters can be mentioned before the Deputy Registrar through Whatsapp message or video call.
  3. A vehicle and a doctor with his team shall remain available 24/7
  4. Staff will be deployed on a rotational basis considering the need for work. If possible, essential work can also be done from home.
  5. Courts will function for urgent hearings such as bail, production and remand from 12 pm till 1 pm.

The above regulations will be in force till March 31 until further notice.
