Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today kept in abeyance its proceedings against the Orissa High Court Bar Association (OHCBA) in the contempt case against the latter.
The 14-member bench of the High Court halted the proceedings against the OHCBA following submission of an affidavit by the latter stating that it has already withdrawn its ceasework.
However, proceedings against the other parties would continue and the court has fixed November 29 as the next date for hearing in the matter.
"Since we have already withdrawn our ceasework, we informed the High Court accordingly through an affidavit. Considering our affidavit, the court has kept in abeyance proceedings so far as the OHCBA is concerned, for others the court has fixed November 29 as the next date of hearing," informed Gopal Krushna Mohanty, president of the OHCBA talking to reporters here.
The Registrar of the High Court had filed a suo motu case against striking lawyers across Odisha.
It may be mentioned here that a 14 member bench of the Orissa High Court after registering the suo motu contempt case had issued notices to 68 Bar Associations apart from the OHCBA on the issue of cessation of court work by lawyers.
