Bhubaneswar: Launching a black badge protest, the Odisha Havildar, Sepoy and Constable Confederation began a mass agitation over delay in fulfillment of their four 4-point charter of demands.
Reportedly, the confederation has been pressing since long for fulfillment of their demands including correction of an anomaly in the 7th grade pay, abolition of contractual appointments, increase in insurance cover and hike in various allowances like special diet allowance, mobility allowance and washing allowance.
The Confederation stated that State Government has deemed their demands to be valid but have not fulfilled the same. Havildars, sepoys and constables in Odisha wore black badges today morning during duty hours as a protest call and are set to deposit all the issued arms and ammunitions in the armoury by the evening. From tomorrow morning (February 8), they will launch cease work agitation and will also ask the constables and havildars posted as personal security to withdraw from duty.
The confederation has alleged that despite reminding several times, neither the State government nor the concerned authorities have taken any concrete steps to fulfill their demands. A discussion with Director General of Police RP Sharma is scheduled for later today.
