Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today announced that it will ensure at least 10 days work in a month and 100 days work in a year for Gaon Sathis (Mates).
"On behalf of the State government we will ensure that at least 10 days work in a month and 100 days work in a year is provided. If its necessary we will spend from the Contingency Fund and take steps for convergence of NREGS with works of different departments" informed Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Minister Pratap Jena speaking to reporters after a meeting with office-bearers of Gaon Sathi (Mates) Sangh Milita Kriyanusthan Committee (GSSMKC).
The Minister admitted that there are many districts especially in the coastal area where 100 days work is not available in a year and added that State government will make all-out efforts to ensure provision of more than 100 days work in a year.
Jena said that the government will hold discussions later with the GSSMKC office bearers to resolve other issues.
"As per our discussion with the Minister all Gaon Sathi (Mates) in Odisha will get at least 10 days work in a month," said General Secretary of GSSMKC Laxmidhar Biswal after the meeting.
Gaon Sathis (Mates) were on dharna at the lower PMG since November 4 over a 5-point charter of demand.
