Puri: The State Government has formed a five-member committee to look into the affairs of 900-year-old Emaar Mutt here. The committee will be chaired by Jhanjapita Mutt's Mahant, Baba Sachidanand Maharaj. The Endowment Commission has granted permission and authority to the committee today.
With this panel in force, the authority of the sitting Mahant, Srinivas Ramanuja will cease, said sources. After recovery of silver bricks from Emaar Mutt, the Mahant was arrested and his authority was scrapped. Later, he challenged the decision and managed to get back financial rights over the property. However, the Endowment Commission did not allow him to manage the affairs of Emaar Mutt.
Apart from the Jhanjapita Mutt Mahant, lawyer, Bana Bihari Sahoo, social worker, Pratima Mishra, researcher Naresh Dash were appointed as advisors for the management of the mutt. However, now the new committee will be managing the mutt affairs. Sources said, a trust will also be formed in this effect.
