Odisha: Govt Earmarks Rs 5 Cr For HC Benches, Awaits Centre's Nod

Bhubaneswar: The State Government has earmarked Rs 5 crore for establishment High Court benches in Western and Southern Odisha.

Finance Department Minister Sashi Bhushan Behera while reading out the budget on Thursday said that initially a budgetary provision of Rs 5 crore has been made for setting up the High Court benches. The funds would be mobilised as soon as the Centre given an approval for the same purpose, said Behera.

"The State Government would provide required logistics, infrastructure and financial support for the purpose," the Minister said.

While the issue has led to a series of protests in the Western and Southern districts of the State, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in January this year wrote to the Centre urging for the establishment of high court benches in these regions.
