Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government accepted resignation of Dr Budhan Murmu, who has been fielded as MLA candidate from Saraskana Assembly seat in Mayurbhanj by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The State Health department informed this through a notification today. Health Minister Pratap Jena said, "Since the launch of universal health-care scheme Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, the State Government had not accepted the VRS (voluntary retirement scheme) of several doctors as there is a shortage of doctors in the State."

"But when we realized that he wanted to serve the people of his area by contesting elections, we immediately accepted his VRS today," he added.

It is notable to mention here that Odisha BJP delegation sat in a ‘dharna’ in front of Naveen Niwas on Wednesday demanding acceptance of government service resignation letter of the saffron party’s Saraskana MLA candidate Dr Budhan Murmu.

The aggrieved candidate, BJP’s vice-president Samir Mohanty and general secretary-cum-senior woman leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar had led the protest yesterday.

Sources revealed that BJP’s Saraskana MLA candidate was a doctor at Rangamatia Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Mayurbhanj district. He had tendered his resignation from the State Government service on October 4, 2018. Notably, filing of nomination papers for fourth phase general elections-2019, including Mayurbhanj district, has been slated from tomorrow (April 4) to April 9.
