Kendrapara: A junior clerk of a government office in Kendrapara district was picked by police today from the office premises on charges of trading stolen bikes. It has been alleged that he was selling stolen bikes at cheap rates and earning profits from it.

After picking up the accused government servant Biranji Mahalik from his office today afternoon, police seized two stolen bikes including the bike he was riding and another sold to a person near the office.

Police has denied revealing further information about the case as it may hinder the probe process. Involvement of various other criminals is suspected in the stolen bike racket.

Meanwhile, the officer in charge of the office alleged police had not informed him prior to picking up an employee from the office premises. Higher authorities have been apprised about the situation, he added.

However, police claimed they had informed the concerned officer before entering the office and picking up the accused junior clerk.
