Odisha: Former Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Tarai Quits Congress

03 April 2019

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress is fishing in troubled waters, thanks to the ever growing list of defectors who have quit the party at the penultimate hour.

To add to the list, former Lok Sabha member Bibhu Prasad Tarai tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the party alleging irregularities in ticket allocations.

Tarai, who was given the Tirtol assembly seat ticket said that Congress has deliberately fielded weak candidates in most places.

"This apart, since Paradip is my birthplace, I am not in a position to accept my party’s decision of giving ticket to a criminal,” Tarai said, referring to Congress' Paradip candidate Arindam Sarkhel.

Tarai represented Jagatsinghpur in the 15th Lok Sabha on CPI ticket.
