Bhubaneswar: Pradip Disari, former Congress MLA Candidate from Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district, joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today in the presence of party supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Disari and his 500-odd supporters joined the BJD at Naveen Niwas here.

On the occasion, the CM said, “I welcome him to the party. I am sure his joining will further strengthen the BJD.”

Disari said, “I was inspired by CM Patnaik’s leadership and took this decision. I disrespected in Congress and was not invited to various party meetings. It was disheartening and I decided to quit Congress,” he said.

In 2014 assembly elections, the Congress had fielded Shivaji Majhi as its MLA candidate from Lanjigarh but in the last minute he had changed the party for which Congress had to replace him with Disari.
