Odisha: Flooded Village Forces Family To Carry Dead On Tyre Tube

01 October 2019

Puri: Family of a deceased elderly woman in Goudaranapada village under Bramhagiri block of Puri district was forced to carry her body on a tyre tube to perform her last rites as rainwater has flooded the village for last six days.

Reportedly, Kuni Bhoi (70) of the village breathed her last on Monday morning. While family members and relatives had gathered to perform her last rites, taking her body to the cremation ground was a major challenge as all roads in the village were water-logged.

They tried to take her body on shoulder but dropped the idea after finding themselves in chest-deep water. The tyre tube was the last option for them to carry Bhoi's body to the cremation ground.

While Bhoi's son stated is an awful moment for them, to their luck the cremation ground was situated above water level and they were able to perform her last rites.
