Odisha: Five Arrested In Malkangiri For Posing As Maoists And Extorting Mine Owner

Malkangiri: The Malkangiri police have arrested five persons who were posing as Maoists and trying to extort money from local businessman. The accused have been identified as Enka Sunam (28) of Kondapalli, Beti Boji (32) of Kamarguda, Naraya Marka (24) of Kondapalli, Kunja Badraya (38) of Lachhigudam, Telengana and Sodi Lenin alias Rabi (29) of Guddur, Telengana.

They were arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Chava Venugopal owner of Peta Mines. Venugopal alleged that on November 5 and 21 he received several threatening messages on his mobile phone from a group of persons.

They demanded Rs 50 lakh and said that if the money was not paid, the miscreants would explode the mine site. During the course of investigation, the police personnel nabbed Enka Sunam and later the involvement of others was established.

Police have booked them and forwarded to the court. Further investigation is on.
