Bhubaneswar: Thousands attended the farmers' conclave called by Nava Nirman Krushak Sanghathan (NNKS) at the Baramunda grounds here today.

Farmers and farmer representatives who had come from all corners of the State and from across the country as well demanded proper price for their produce and a security allowance of Rs 5,000 for farmers.

Farmers resolved to come together to strengthen the movement at the national level on the issues of price, prestige, and pension.

The NNKS warned the State government of a massive agitation in May if the latter failed to provision 50 percent of the budget for farmers in the State's annual budget to be placed in March and take steps to fulfill their demands of price, prestige and pension apart from the 18-point charter of demands.

"Farmers and farmer representatives from Odisha and from across the country have come. Approximately 50,000 farmers have come together to strengthen the movement at the national level on the issues of price, prestige, and pension on which Nava Nirman Krushak Sanghathan was formed. Moreover, we have given six months to the State government to provision 50 percent of the budget for farmers in its annual budget to be placed in March, to take steps to fulfill our demands of price, prestige, and pension apart from our 18-point charter of demands failing which a massive agitation will be launched in May," said Akshay Kumar, Convenor, NNKS briefing reporters here.
